Virginia Mason Partners With Others to Launch Innovative Health Plan in Puget Sound Region
Virginia Mason has partnered with several like-minded organizations to launch the Puget Sound High Value Network, an innovative health plan now available to self-insured businesses with 50 or more employees.
The new health plan is being offered through First Choice Health, which provides health plan administration to several major employers throughout the Puget Sound region. The network is committed to delivering high-quality, cost-effective care at a reduced cost to businesses and their employees. With many employers in the region set to begin annual open enrollment, the high value network offers a compelling health plan option for their employees.
“We need to tame the cost of health care, improve outcomes, increase access to quality care, and stand behind our work as an industry,” said Virginia Mason Chairman and CEO Gary S. Kaplan, MD. “The Puget Sound High Value Network is a game-changer.”
In addition to Virginia Mason, the network includes EvergreenHealth, Franciscan Health System, Lakeshore Clinic, Overlake Medical Center, Edmonds Family Medicine and The Everett Clinic. All participants are aligned philosophically and share a commitment to collaborating on clinical initiatives focused on delivering quality, efficiency, value and coordinated care across the region. Individuals who enroll in the Puget Sound High Value Network can control their costs of health care by receiving care through the network’s primary care and specialty providers.
The network encompasses the region from Tacoma to Everett, and includes eight hospitals, 164 clinics, and 23 ancillary provider locations with a total of 2,835 specialty and primary care providers.
Unlike other health care network offerings in the region, Puget Sound High Value Network (PSHVN) providers are selected based on a commitment to providing high-quality care at a reduced unit cost. The network is able to offer lower rates on health plans to employers through the participating providers’ shared commitment to embracing a new approach to health care delivery. Through First Choice Health, employers can access a comprehensive standard offering through PSHVN or larger self-insured organizations can customize the network’s offerings.
The Puget Sound High Value Network was introduced at a health care broker symposium in Seattle on Sept. 11.
