Virginia Mason In-House Counsel Honored by American Bar Association
SEATTLE – (June 11, 2014) – Lynne Chafetz, senior vice president and general counsel to the Virginia Mason Health System, has received the 2014 Outstanding In-House Counsel Award from the American Bar Association (ABA). It was one of several awards announced by the ABA Non-Profit Organizations Committee June 5 in Washington, D.C.
Chafetz oversees legal affairs, governance and enterprise risk management for Virginia Mason, including the hospital, medical centers, Bailey-Boushay House, Benaroya Research Institute, the Virginia Mason Foundation and the Virginia Mason Institute.
She has been an innovator in applying principles of the Virginia Mason Production System to streamline the processes of Virginia Mason’s legal and governance departments. Chafetz and her team have improved the processes by which Virginia Mason handles compliance with new rules and regulations, such as the Affordable Care Act, contract management, and assessment and negotiation of complex partnering arrangements.
The ABA Non-Profit Organizations Committee annually recognizes accomplished and civic-minded non-profit attorneys in the categories of academic, in-house counsel, young attorney and lifetime achievement.
