Vehicles, pedestrians to be rerouted on Seneca, 8th

Installation of a tower crane on the construction project just west of Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) will necessitate a temporary closure affecting parts of Seneca Street and 8th Avenue during the weekend of Aug. 16-18.

The closure is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, and end at 12 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 18. It will impact access along Seneca between Hubbell Place and 9th Avenue, and along 8th between Spring and Pike streets.

The closure also will affect pedestrian traffic, which will be rerouted accordingly. Access to the BRI loading dock and parking garage also will be blocked for most of the street closure. The BRI parking garage will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, until approximately 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19.

PCL Construction, which is building a 30-story apartment building on 8th and Seneca, said the closure is necessary to create a clear and safe work area for crane placement and support vehicles. Uniformed officers will be on site to assist at intersections with traffic signals during the closure.

If the installation of the crane takes longer than planned, the closure hours may be adjusted, as well. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please contact:
