Scope processing and endoscope culture process
Virginia Mason has developed a scope processing and endoscope culture process which involves testing all duodenoscopes (those designed for pancreas and bile duct access) and placing them in quarantine until a negative post-reprocessing culture is confirmed. The process follows, and enhances, applicable manufacturer guidelines. Health care facilities interested in reviewing our process, current as of March 3, 2015 may find these processes below.
Please keep in mind that these processes have been developed specifically for Virginia Mason, and processes for other health care entities may differ based on conditions at that facility. Health care facilities should follow applicable manufacturer guidelines, as well as the most recent guidance issued by the FDA and CDC.
