The new Virginia Mason Bainbridge Island Medical Center hosts a public preview event May 20 and opens to serve patients June 11.

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND – (May 7, 2018) – An open house and public preview of the new Virginia Mason Bainbridge Island Medical Center is set for Sunday, May 20, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The facility is at 1344 Wintergreen Lane NE in the Wintergreen Walk development at High School Road and Highway 305. The event is open to everyone. Admission is free.

During self-guided tours, visitors can view the modern patient exam rooms; speak with Virginia Mason team members about services that will be available at the outpatient medical facility; learn about technology that supports the Virginia Mason standard for high quality care; and sign up to become new patients. Complimentary snacks and refreshments will be offered. A self-serve photo booth promises to be fun for the entire family.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett, a Virginia Mason supporter, is also scheduled to attend for pictures and to sign autographs from 1:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

"This will be an exciting opportunity for our patients, their families and individuals throughout the community to see the special environment of care our new medical center provides,” said Virginia Mason Chairman and CEO Gary S. Kaplan, MD.

The new facility, which officially opens June 11, has 30,000 square feet of space for primary care and specialty services. These include family medicine; behavioral health; cardiology; cardiac testing; concierge medicine; dermatology; hematology-oncology consultations; endocrinology; neurology; neurosurgery consults; orthopedics; physical therapy; podiatry; rheumatology; sleep medicine; travel medicine; nutrition counseling; digital X-ray; 3-dimensional mammography; MRI and CT imaging; ultrasound; bone-density screening; and laboratory services.

The facility’s design combines function with flexibility, ensuring ample room for additional programs and services as needed in the future. Design features include abundant natural light throughout the facility, water-conservative landscaping and a charging station for electric cars. Free, convenient parking will be available for patients and visitors. The architect was Rice Fergus Miller, Inc., of Bremerton.

“One of our highest priorities has been to create the right facility in the right setting that will support remarkable patient experiences and inspire community wellness,” said Catherine Edwards, MD, section head for primary care, Virginia Mason Bainbridge Island Medical Center. “The result is a medical facility that is second to none.”

Until the new medical center opens June 11, Virginia Mason care providers will continue to see and support patients at the current clinic location, 380 Winslow Way E.

Virginia Mason has served Bainbridge Island for more than 25 years. In 2015, the organization announced it would relocate to a new and larger facility so it could meet the community’s health care needs far into the future. Virginia Mason representatives hosted several public planning events for the new facility that were attended by patients and other individuals in the community.
