May-June Repairs to Hood Canal Bridge
Beginning in May, the Hood Canal Bridge will be closed for six weeks for repairs and maintenance. While the work will help improve the flow of traffic in that area, it does represent a challenge for Virginia Mason patients and visitors using the bridge during May and June.
Travel Options During the Bridge Closure
- The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has several options in place, including shuttle, ferry and bus connections to help you get where you need to go.
- You may want to drive to Bremerton and take the Bremerton-Seattle ferry.
- Or, you could drive around the peninsula and use the Narrows Bridge.
There is another option to shorten your commute. Rather than trying to get all the way to Seattle for your care, Virginia Mason can arrange for you to receive care at Virgina Mason Federal Way or Virginia Mason Winslow, if those are closer to your home. Call your provider's office for further details.
Keep in mind that many people will be in your same situation looking for the best alternatives, so you should expect additional delays no matter which way you go. Virginia Mason is aware of the delays, so don't worry if you get stuck in traffic. We'll do all that we can to see that you're taken care of as soon as possible when you arrive, even if you are late.
