Neurology and Neurosurgery Fellowship Opportunities

Complex Spine Fellowship

The Center for Neurosciences & Spine at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health offers a one-year fellowship opportunity for concentrated experience in complex spine surgery, focusing on clinical experience and academic output/publication. International applicants who are not U.S. citizens must be eligible for an H1-B visa or equivalent. Applicants with J1 visa status are ineligible for the fellowship. The fellowship curriculum includes goals in surgery, research and lean methodology.

Available to individuals who have completed residency in neurosurgery or orthopedic surgery with eligibility for a state license, this outstanding opportunity is one of several academic positions within the Neuroscience Institute and provides dedicated time to conduct research and gain clinical experience in complex spinal surgery technique, in the "Seattle Spine Team" approach.

Supervision and mentoring are provided by Jean-Christophe Leveque, MD, and Rajiv Sethi, MD, Fellowship Co-Directors, and other faculty and Center for Neurosciences & Spine care team members, all experts in the treatment and research of spine and neurological disorders, including Venu Nemani, MD, PhD and Philip Louie, MD.

The application period for the 2025-2026 Complex Spine Fellowship is now closed. The 2026-2027 application period opens in August 2024.

To apply, submit an SFMatch Spine Surgery Fellowship Common Application and required accompanying materials to SFMatch via the SFMatch website.
