His special medical interests include thoracic surgery, esophageal surgery and minimally invasive surgery. He is currently the Clinical Director of the largest online database (Esodata.org) that is used to carry out clinical study regarding esophageal cancer.

Dr. Low is widely published in professional journals and has written chapters for more than 40 medical textbooks and over 100 peer-reviewed papers. He has won several awards, including the prestigious J. Bradley Aust Award from the Western Surgical Association. He was recognized by the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery for the Best Paper of 2007, and was awarded the Tate Mason Award by Virginia Mason in 2014. Voted one of Seattle's Top Doctors by both Seattle Metropolitan and Seattle Magazine in 2009 through 2018. Dr. Low has been elected to the American Surgical Association and has been awarded Honorary Fellowships in the Royal College of England, Royal College of Ireland and the Royal College of Edinburgh. He was asked by the ERA Society to write the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery for Esophageal Resection which was published in 2018, PMID 30276441.
