Construction Bulletin: Week of Oct. 22, 2007
Greetings from Virginia Mason Medical Center! This is our regular bulletin describing the construction work taking place at the building site on Boren Avenue between Seneca and Spring. We plan to continue sending out bulletins weekly to keep you informed of the latest construction activities, schedules and plans.
For the week of Oct. 22, general contractor Skanska will put up fencing around the property line of the site along Seneca, Boren and Spring. Between Oct. 22 and Nov. 16, Virginia Mason and Skanska will continue to carry out preparations for the Northcliffe building's demolition, including asbestos removal, discontinuing utilities and rodent extermination. In addition to asbestos removal inside the building, we will conduct asbestos removal work on the exterior of the building. To do this, the sidewalks along Seneca and Boren will be closed until this work is completed, roughly from Oct. 22 until Nov. 12.
Demolition is tentatively scheduled for the week of Nov. 19, but this date may change depending on the time needed to complete preparation activities. It will be a traditional tear-down demolition, not an implosion or wrecking ball operation. Through a special permit, the actual tearing down will occur over a weekend to minimize the impact on pedestrian and car traffic around the site. During the weeks to follow, building material and debris will be removed from the site.
Prior to demolition, fencing will be moved out to the street. At that time, pedestrians will be directed to sidewalks across the street from the site. The right southbound lane of Boren Avenue will be closed intermittently to traffic from Nov. 19 through Dec. 17.
