  • For Saturday, Feb. 27, and Sunday, Feb. 28, Virginia Mason has secured special permits to allow for delivery of a large connector bridge, seen above, which will join the existing hospital to the new addition.
  • The connector bridge is 102 feet long, 11 feet wide and 19 feet high, and requires special provisions for its transport and delivery as outlined below.

Street Closures

  • Terry Avenue between Seneca and University streets will be closed to traffic from 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb 27, until Sunday evening (Feb 28).
  • Seneca Street, between Boren and Terry avenues, will be closed to traffic Saturday from 7 p.m. (Feb. 27) through Sunday evening (Feb. 28).

Parking Restrictions

  • Parking along the delivery route will be affected the evening of Feb. 27 through Feb. 28. There will be no parking along Harvard Avenue from East Madison Street to Seneca and no parking along Seneca from Harvard to Ninth Avenue, from 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, until 6 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28. The bridge structure will be passing through this area between 4 and 4:30 a.m. Feb. 28.

  • This delivery and installation will result in noise within the permitted limits set by the city, but because it will occur in off hours, it may be more noticeable and disruptive. We apologize in advance for any disturbance; it will be of limited duration. Noise will result mainly from running diesel engines and installing a mobile crane and the connector bridge.

Detailed schedule of activities:

  • On Friday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m., we will stage two large forklifts, lighting and other equipment at the Lindeman Pavilion loading dock on Terry. The loading dock will be closed after 1 p.m. Friday.
  • We will begin work on site at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, and will work into the night and through Sunday, ending work at 6 p.m.
  • On Saturday, King County Metro will set up two large boom trucks on Seneca, west of Boren. These trucks will facilitate removal of Metro Transit trolley lines along Seneca in the afternoon.
  • A large mobile crane will be delivered to the site around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, to facilitate the unloading and positioning of the connector bridge.
  • The large bridge section will be delivered via heavy hauler truck, which will drive along Harvard from East Madison to Seneca, then along Seneca from Harvard to Terry around 4 a.m. Parking along the delivery route will be restricted from 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, until 6 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 28.
  • Delivery of the connector bridge under police escort is scheduled for 4:30 a.m. (Feb. 28).
