What's New

Please note there will be an increase in dump-truck traffic Tuesday, Sept. 9, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., while additional dirt is removed from the site.

VM Staff Campaign Event Sept. 8

  • Traffic will be blocked on Terry Avenue between Seneca Street and University Street from 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, through 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, as Virginia Mason holds a special event as part of its staff fund-raising campaign for the new addition. Crews will begin setting up for the event Sunday evening. The actual event will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, and will feature live music and other attractions. Please stop by if you are in the area!

Site Foundation Work Continues

  • From time to time, residents may hear an "air horn" from the site. The reason for the safety alert is to let workers in the construction hole know that a heavy load is about to be lifted across the site.

  • Intermittent concrete pours will continue on Seneca and Boren Avenue throughout the week. Concrete trucks will begin pouring at 8 a.m. on Seneca and 9 a.m. on Boren. Seneca and Boren will be limited to one lane in each direction during the construction pours. Parking on the south side of Seneca also will be unavailable temporarily.

  • Steel deliveries for the foundation continue this week on Seneca and Spring Street. This work requires temporary parking restrictions on the south and north side of Seneca (6 a.m. to 6 p.m. north side; 24 hours south side).

  • As work around the foundation evolves, our activities over the next few weeks will focus on pouring footings, columns and walls, laying rebar, and installing piping and conduits.

Commitment to Crane Safety
Virginia Mason and our work team are deeply committed to ensuring 100-percent safety for our neighbors and our team.

Crane Communications
We have implemented a thorough safety and communications effort that includes the following:

  • Dedicated Web page on the Virginia Mason site about tower-crane safety and activities:

  • Construction hotline at (206) 341-1511 that you may call any time to leave your questions or concerns. We also ask that you use this hotline as a way to report unusual activity on or around the site.

What to Expect Over the Weekend
There will be no work associated with the VM construction project Saturday, Sept. 6, and Sunday, Sept. 7. If you see anyone on the site over this long weekend, please let us know by calling the construction hotline at (206) 341-1511.

SDOT Boren/Madison Paving Project
Work on this City of Seattle project continues. Please note this work is not connected to the VM hospital construction project. More details are available on the city's Web site at
