On Patients
"My main thrill with ophthalmology is that you get such positive feedback so quickly from patients. I like to talk to patients, not hurrying them through the door. Fully educated patients are the best patients, and we try to provide the education."

On Specialty
"I really enjoy Virginia Mason, because you can have a basic clinical practice and still work on research. I view myself as an academic ophthalmologist and enjoy giving regional and national lectures on my clinical and basic research projects each year."
