Environmental Excellence at Virginia Mason Gaining Momentum across the Country
June 2014 — Virginia Mason has received three more environmental excellence awards for its organization-wide programs to protect the environment through energy conservation, recycling and elimination of hazardous products from the workplace.
The latest awards were announced in June by Practice Green Health, a national organization whose members strive to increase their environmental stewardship while improving patient safety.
Virginia Mason received:
- 2014 Circle of Excellence in Energy Award for outstanding performance in energy efficiency.
- Emerald Award for mercury elimination, waste reduction, recycling and source-reduction programs above and beyond criteria for the Partner for Change Award that Virginia Mason received in 2013.
- Making Medicine Mercury-Free Award for policies aimed at eliminating mercury from the workplace.
“We’re honored by this recognition of the commitment across our organization to creating and preserving a healthy environment for our patients, our team members and the community,” said Brenna Davis, director of Sustainability at Virginia Mason.
Virginia Mason has received numerous awards for its sustainability efforts and EnviroMason program in recent years. In 2013, Virginia Mason was designated as one of the 50 Greenest Hospitals in the U.S. by Becker’s Hospital Review, a health care industry publication.
