Typically, program participants are past the stage of initial hospitalization and recovery. They have the capacity to learn and the potential to increase their independence, adjustment and productivity.
The rehabilitation team is comprised of specialists in neuropsychology, speech and language pathology, physical therapy and occupational therapy. Virginia Mason offers therapies to address multiple consequences of stroke. One specific treatment for hand and leg weakness, is using functional electrical stimulation provided by Bioness products. There is a unit that helps with hand motion (H200), and another to improve walking (L300).
