SEATTLE – (Sept. 8, 2016) – Virginia Mason Chairman and CEO Gary S. Kaplan, MD, was named to the Becker’s Hospital Review list of “110 Physician Leaders To Know in 2016,” which features presidents and CEOs of hospitals and health systems who also hold medical degrees.

Those recognized have demonstrated outstanding leadership and clinical expertise throughout their careers and led initiatives to improve their individual organizations and the health care of the communities they serve, Becker’s said in a news release.

Dr. Kaplan, an internal medicine physician, has served as chairman and CEO of Virginia Mason Health System since 2000. He is also chair of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Board of Directors and chairman of the National Patient Safety Foundation’s Lucian Leape Institute.

The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected individuals for inclusion based on editorial judgment and discretion, and nominations were considered when making selections for this list, which has been published since 2010. Individuals did not and cannot pay to be on the list.
