SEATTLE – (March 7, 2016) – Brenna Davis, director of sustainability at Virginia Mason, has received the 2016 Sustainable Business Leader Award from Sustainable Seattle, which promotes innovations that advance healthy communities, environments and economies.
It was one of several Sustainability Leadership Awards presented March 4 at the Seattle Yacht Club. Multiple businesses, organizations and individuals were recognized for their efforts to make Puget Sound a more sustainable and livable community. Local individuals, businesses, organizations and public agencies were nominated in eight categories.
Nominations for these competitive awards were solicited from the community and narrowed down to the top five finalists in each category. Winners were selected by a panel of 12 independent judges who have significant experience and involvement in sustainable business, agency and local community initiatives.
Davis was recognized for leading Virginia Mason’s environmental stewardship program (EnviroMason) that has established the organization as a national model in green health practices and for helping to create the Washington Climate Declaration, signed by more than 250 businesses.
“I’m honored to have been chosen for this award,” she said. “There are many people and organizations doing great things to protect the environment. I am fortunate to be part of the Virginia Mason organization, which is committed to protecting the health of our patients and the well-being of the broader community.”
With Davis’ leadership, Virginia Mason has received numerous accolades for its environmental stewardship, including being named one of the 25 most sustainable hospitals in America by Practice Green Health.
