Call for a radiation oncology cancer appointment

Experience matters. At Virginia Mason Radiation Oncology, that experience is measured by more than simply time and numbers, it includes a continuous dedication to creating the perfect patient experience.

Our specially trained and experienced radiation oncologists are part of a multidisciplinary team that uses cutting-edge technology for the most accurate diagnoses, followed by state-of-the-art treatments to give cancer patients the best chance for recovery.

Radiation may be used before, during, or after surgery and chemotherapy as part of a targeted approach to shrinking or eradicating tumors. The radiation oncology team at Virginia Mason meets and exceeds the American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation standards for the delivery of radiation therapy.

Patient-Centered Radiation Oncology Care

Radiation therapy is in itself painless. Side effects are usually limited to the area of the body that is being treated. Modern radiation therapy aims to reduce side effects, such as fatigue and skin irritation, by using the lowest dose possible and targeting only the cancerous tissue.

Today, we can also tailor everything to each individual patient's needs. Not only are we able to pinpoint the radiation in a precise way that has the least impact on healthy tissue, but we can also arrange treatment schedules so that patients have the least disruption to their daily lives.

Virginia Mason has long been a pioneer in short-course treatment. Many patients can now have treatment schedules that are much shorter than the five to six weeks of a standard schedule. This includes hypofractionated regimens that allow us to shave two weeks off standard treatment schedules while maintaining the same effectiveness and outcomes.
