Please inform your insurance provider about your
scheduled operation. Most insurance companies require notification and/or
authorization prior to an operation. Insurance companies and Health Maintenance
Organizations (HMOs) expect their subscribers or insured members to know about
these requirements. Failure to comply with your insurance company’s
preauthorization requirements may result in reduction or even denial of your
benefits.
If after calling your insurance company you have questions
about your insurance coverage, contact your surgeon’s office. The Virginia Mason
downtown campus has Patient Services Specialists on site who can assist you
between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Your
surgeon’s office can arrange for you to speak to a specialist.
