With a small class size of 9 residents per year, our program takes pride in its ability to foster a close, personal atmosphere for learning. Our curriculum includes faculty-led simulation sessions, traditional lectures, in-room teaching, as well as workshops and journal clubs. Virginia Mason’s faculty are well known internationally in the anesthesiology community and are committed to resident education. Our attendings are engaged in clinical research, quality improvement, hospital leadership, global health, and policy and advocacy. They provide tailored mentoring for residents to excel in any of these areas.

At Virginia Mason you will rotate through a variety of subspecialties, including our distinguished regional anesthesia service. Our off-site rotations include obstetrical anesthesia at Swedish Hospital, the busiest labor and delivery unit in the Pacific Northwest, pediatric anesthesia at Seattle Children’s Hospital, and critical care and trauma anesthesia at one of the leading trauma centers in the nation, Harborview Medical Center.
