“We have made dramatic improvements in patient care and support processes over the past 14 years using the Virginia Mason Production System. It is critical that we develop and share a deep understanding of these improvements, both qualitatively and quantitatively, so that we can continue to accelerate “best practices” and transform health care to help patients everywhere.”

Gary Kaplan, MD, , FACP, FACMPE, FACPE, Chairman and CEO

Virginia Mason Production System

In 2002, Virginia Mason embarked on an ambitious, system-wide program to change the way it delivers health care and in the process improve patient safety and quality. It did so by adopting the basic tenets of the Toyota Production System (TPS), calling it the Virginia Mason Production System, or VMPS. Learn more about VMPS at Virginia Mason >>
