About Us

The pharmacy residency program at Virginia Mason, an integrated health care system, is an accredited PGY1 program with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).

Purpose

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Pharmacists completing this residency will be competent and confident practitioners in multiple health care environments and across the continuum of patient-centered care in an integrated health-system. Program graduates will be prepared to enter clinical practice. These pharmacists will exercise skill in educating other health care professionals and patients on medication related topics. The residents will develop their presentation and teaching/preceptor skills. They will perform needs assessment and display problem solving skills for developing and evaluating programs. As practicing pharmacists, they will demonstrate maturity by following a personal philosophy of practice, monitoring their own performance, possessing leadership skills and exhibiting commitment to the profession. Our residents will ensure informatics and technology will be used to improve patient care processes.

Program Benefits
