Why Virginia Mason? Virginia Mason is a true gem. I am honored to be part of a forward-thinking, innovative medical community that maintains integrity, values quality in health care for all, and optimizes care for the individual.

Why Seattle? Seattle is a perfect blend of everything I love - the beautiful outdoors, art, culture, music, diversity, creativity, inspiration ... the list is long!

Hobbies: Any and everything outside, dog walks, running, gardening, home improvement projects, dancing, and eating delicious food that other people cook.

Why Virginia Mason? I am impressed by the people and the learning environment at Virginia Mason. It is a small program with lots of individual support from faculty, and there are lots of academic enrichment opportunities from collaborating with larger regional institutions.

Why Seattle? I love everything about Seattle! It's a beautiful city with great diversity, activities and food.

Why Virginia Mason? Smaller program with extensive 1 on 1 teaching from attendings. Excellent faculty with a lot of support and focus on resident wellness.

Why Seattle? An endless number of activities, great food/entertainment, diverse.

Hobbies: Outdoor activities including hiking, biking and snowboarding.

Trevor Miller, MD

Why Virginia Mason? The people and culture just felt like the right fit on my interview day. Also wanted a smaller program and am interested in ESIR (plenty of IR volume to go around!).

Why Seattle? It's just the hardest place to leave! Great proximity to hikes, water, winter sports, etc. Tons of awesome food and events, great parks, and secretly beautiful summers!

Jeremy Paluch, MD

Why Virginia Mason? I wanted a smaller, more resident-centered residency, rather than one with lots of fellows. I was impressed with everyone I met on interview day and felt like it’d be a great fit.

Why Seattle? My partner grew up here. After spending all of my life in Southern California, I wanted to escape the endless sun and traffic. It’s an endlessly fun, gorgeous city with far too much to do in just the 5 years of residency.

Hobbies: I try to exercise 5-6 times per week. We’ve been working on improving our home gym setup since the gyms have closed. I like to cook, explore the parks and nearby mountains, and go skiing as much as I can.

Stefano Johnson, MD

Why Virginia Mason? Friendly culture, stellar reputation in the community, small program allowing for excellent one-on-one training and mentorship with emphasis on quality improvement and patient care.

Why Seattle? I grew up near Seattle and went to University of Washington for undergraduate. I chose to return home after moving to the East Coast for Teach for America and medical school because I love Seattle’s proximity to the mountains, lakes and Puget Sound. Seattle can’t be beat in terms of a major U.S. city with such a wonderful surrounding natural beauty and plethora of outdoor activities.

Hobbies: Soccer, running, traveling, skiing, hiking, kiteboarding

Marcus Lacey, MD

Why Virginia Mason? Virginia Mason provides comprehensive training and great fellowship placement in a supportive and collaborative culture with an emphasis on quality improvement.

Why Seattle? I grew up near Seattle so it's home for me. Also, it's hard to beat in terms of weather, food, entertainment and surrounding outdoor options.

Johnathan Righetti, MD

Why Virginia Mason? It felt like the best fit on interview day. People were kind, residents were happy, and I knew the training would be excellent.

Why Seattle? Being from Montana, I wanted to stay somewhat close, but also have exceptional access to the outdoors. Seattle seemed like the perfect mix of urban possibility and diversity combined with brilliant nature escapes.

Hobbies: Anything outdoors, but climbing and backpacking in solitude (out of cell range) tops the list. I also play hockey, cook Italian food, and enjoy keeping a modest garden in the summer time.

Shane Morris, MD

Why Virginia Mason? Virginia Mason has a friendly and intelligent group of attending radiologists who are very interested in teaching. As the resident on service without any fellows, there is no competition for studies or procedures. The hospital itself has a great community feel, while also getting a nice variety of pathology.

Why Seattle? Seattle is a really fun city to live in with tons of great hiking and water activities. I live near Virginia Mason and everything I need is really close and accessible.

Why Virginia Mason? I love the small program feel and how much teaching and mentorship we are able to have due to high attending to resident ratio. Everyone has been super kind and amazing to work with.

Why Seattle? I grew up in Washington, went to school at the University of Washington, so Seattle has been home all of my adult life. I love everything about Seattle and wanted to stay here for training.
