Woman Smiling

There are many personal reasons why people have eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty. Some people want their eyes to convey vitality and energy while others simply want to look younger. Regardless, it’s important to know that people with a visual impairment are not the only candidates. In fact, it is the third most popular cosmetic procedure performed in the U.S.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, also called eyelid surgery or eye lift, is a surgical procedure that can help improve the appearance around your eyes, and address the wrinkles and contours around the eyes and eyelids. Eyelid surgery can involve your upper lids, lower lids, or both for many patients.

An eye lift will not eliminate dark circles under the eyes, crow's feet or other facial wrinkles. It is often done along with other procedures, such as fractional Co2 laser resurfacing or Botox to address other aspects of aging around the eyes.

Most patients can resume work two weeks after surgery, although it may take a few months before full healing is completed.

Am I a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

In general, men and women that are healthy, non-smokers, and those without serious eye conditions are ideal candidates. Our surgeons spend significant time listening to their patients and establish shared realistic expectations of the outcome of the surgery through a unique operative plan to address each patient's individual goals. Each treatment plan can include a range of services, both surgical and non-surgical, to address our patients' goals. The initial consultation with one of our facial plastic surgeons will include:

  • A discussion of goals and expectations for the procedure. A surgeon will review options to develop an individualized surgical plan that will balance goals, anatomy, and the current techniques that are available.
  • The care team will review what to expect before and after the surgery, including the risks and anticipated benefits to the procedure. Any medical issues that might affect the procedure’s outcome are carefully reviewed.

Patients are encouraged to ask questions and discuss concerns during this visit.
