Interventional radiologists are board-certified physicians who specialize in minimally-invasive procedures used in the diagnosis and/or treatment of a wide variety of conditions. This medical specialty offers less invasive diagnosis and treatment options for conditions that have traditionally required surgical intervention.
Through a small knick in the skin, interventional radiologists use tiny catheters and specialized equipment to carry out a diagnostic test or treatment plan while using various types of radiology equipment (X-Ray, Ultrasound, CT scan) to guide their work.
