What to bring to the Hospital

While most of the things you will need when in the hospital are provided you may want to consider bringing toiletries and comfortable clothes with you to help make your stay more comfortable.

Insurance

Don't forget to bring your insurance card with you to the hospital. Also, you should notify your insurance company of your plans for hospitalization.

Advance Directives

Virginia Mason supports each patient's rights to determine his or her care. Upon admission, you will be provided a brochure with more information.

Valuables

Please don't bring valuables, such as credit cards, jewelry, wedding rings and large amounts of money, to the hospital. The hospital cannot assume responsibility for the safekeeping of these items. If you are coming to Virginia Mason for surgery, please remove all rings before leaving home, in case of swelling.

Medications

Do not bring your medications with you to the hospital. Instead, bring a list of the medications, the dosages and times you take them.

Hospital Access

The main hospital doors at 925 Seneca Street are open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The doors to the Emergency Department, at the corner of Spring Street and Terry Avenue, are open 24 hours a day. You may enter the Emergency Department from Spring Street.

Wheelchair Entrances

All entrances of the medical center are wheelchair accessible. If you need a wheel chair or other special equipment, call our internal transport team at (206) 625-7373, ext. 61322.

Discharge

When your doctor decides that you are ready to leave the hospital, he or she will confirm your discharge. You should make arrangements ahead of time to have a friend or family member help you when it is time to leave.
