Subspecialty Anesthesiology Rotations

Subspecialty training at Virginia Mason includes extensive experience in cardiac, neurosurgical, vascular and other subspecialties, as well as a rigorous exposure to complex airway techniques; perioperative perineural analgesia techniques; and two-dimensional and three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography techniques.

  • Instruction in pediatric anesthesia is obtained during a two-month rotation at Seattle Children's Hospital in the CA-2 year and a one-month rotation in the CA-3 year.
     
  • Critical care medicine training occurs during a two-month rotation at Harborview Medical Center during the CA-2 year in both the Neurosurgical ICU and Surgical ICU.
     
  • A second two-month rotation at Harborview Medical Center during the CA-3 year emphasizes the perioperative care of burn and trauma surgery patients.
     
  • Obstetrical anesthesiology instruction is provided at Swedish Medical Center as a one-month rotation in both the CA-2 and CA-3 years.
