After Your Operation
You will wake up in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit after your operation. The nursing staff will closely monitor your recovery from anesthesia. Your anesthesiologist will order pain medication and anything else you might need for safe and comfortable post-operative care.
Your surgeon will write discharge medications for you if you are going home the same day as your operation. Your surgeon or anesthesiologist will order pain medication or a pain management system for you if you stay in the hospital. If your pain medication does not adequately control your pain or makes you feel nauseated or peculiar in any way, please let your nurse know immediately.
If you are scheduled to stay in the hospital your friends and family are welcome to visit you after you are comfortably settled in your room. Visiting hours are very flexible. If visitors have any questions, please ask them to call the nursing station at the appropriate floor.
