Is the Program Right for Me?

The Transitional Year program is designed for individuals with an interest in radiology, anesthesiology, dermatology, psychiatry, emergency room medicine, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, radiation oncology, and those residents who will go into the armed services. The flexibility of the year's experience is well suited to all of these careers and, after completion, the individual can proceed directly to the appropriate residency program.

In addition, the transitional first year is excellent preparation for a career in family practice or internal medicine. Historically, many Virginia Mason medical residents have been selected from individuals completing this program.
